blown head gasket,fixed,but wont start

Hi Everyone:
I am writing in for a friend,.
He has a 1988 Chrysler lebaron, turbo2,130,000 miles,.
He likes the car a lot,especially the turbo.
The head gasket blew out, which he fixed.
He is a very good amateur mechanic.
But now when he tries to start it it just cranks too fast and wont start.
He has changed the sparks,. He has put transmision fluid it the engine to clean the fuel injectors,.
but it still wont start, the fuel pump is new, and the computer,.
does anybody have any suggestions about why it wont start, or what he can try?

when he took the head off, did he make sure that he had his timing marks lined up on the timimg belt and the cam gears? Did he also when he removed the distributor, have it pointed to the number one cylinder? If he didn't do either one of those things, it'll never start up.

I would have to agree with him. i ave an '88 with a 2.5 and i replaced the head gaskets and it slipped out of time. after fixing that it started right up.

First of all, I would never put transmission fluid in the engine at all, it doesn't clean injectors very well. That it prolly isn't very good for the engine at all. When he did the head gasket he prolly didn't torque it down to spec and blew it again or he messed up the valve timing which if it is too bad than it could lead to piston to valve contact which can very rapidly ruin an engine. He will need to readjust the valve timing if its not already too late.

why would u put tanny fuild in an motor? its makes brake lines swell shut. i would check timing tough but not to worry that year car should have an non-infercnce motor (pistons have places cut into them so the vavles and pisstions don't hit if timing misses up

Automatic transmission fluid has a higher ratio of detergents in it than motor oil. The car owner is confused. Tranny fluid was not used to clean fuel injectors. What it is used for is to dislodge deposits in hydraulic lash adjusters, oil squirters in motors that have them, and other tight passages through which oil must flow.
You replace the oil with ATF without changing the filter. Run the motor at idle for 30-45 minutes. Drain fluid, change filter and fill with normal motor oil. This technique is an old shadetree trick that works quite well to quiet noisy HLA's. I've used it on two of my cars, and been pleased with the results.
