timing chain too short or too long

I have a 85 pick up truck, when i bought it it came with a 92 22RE, the head cracked and is beyond help, so I bought another one from the junk yard, it is a 85 head, What I found out is the head is 4 inches tall and the one I had is 3 3/4 inches tall. now this is the problem when I try to install the timing chain it wil not fit, I try the 48 link chain it wont fit is too short and the 49 link is too long. how can I fix this problem?
any help will be appreciated. thanks..

those two engines are differant you need the correct year head for the matching block

The head they gave you from junk yard must be an '84. Deck height changed in '85 and up.

There are two different 22R deck block heights one for 1981-84 & one for 1985-95,see below for tons of more info on how to tell each too:
