First Post! Brake trouble

My 2002 silverado has recently developed a very squishy brake pedal that also does the ABS thing a little when you first brake after starting it. At first the brakes don't work and then they suddenly come on.
I know this truck sat for long periods of time (only 16K miles) and was used for a plow.
It's at the dealer and they think it may be the ps pump "dumping" whatever that means. It costs $800 bucks to fix if that's it. I won't know until Monday when a senior tech comes in.
My theory is simpler. I think the fluid has absorbed water sitting in the Northern Wis. winters. Before they get too serious, shouldn't they just do a flush first and see if that helps?
Does this sound like a possiblity?

I agree with you. They should try at least bleading the lines. They may have already tried that but what you say makes some sense (to me anyway). Replacing the current fluid with all new fluid would be a hell of a lot cheaper than $800.

Thanks! I'm going to call them first thing Monday and ask if they checked this issue out - It sounded like they only had the "B" team in on Saturday and they have to wait for someone who actually knows what they are doing to come in and take a look...

Good plan. I worked in a garage for a while. I was definitly on the "B" team, at least I knew enough to wait for the staters to come in on Monday before I told someone they needed to sink $800 to fix something.
