'02 Denali a/c clutches making noise

Clutches are making a clacking noise during takeoff but not at high RPM's. The noise does not happen if the ac is turned off. Can the clutches be replaced without removing the ac compressor? I'm thinking about doing this myself, anyone had any experience?
