Finally had time to go by and pick up the Enzo model I've been asked to build. Guess what was waiting for me in the shop when I got there?

Also got some paint for the build:

I'm really excited, I've never used Tamiya paints before and now it looks like I have a pretty good start. I start school Monday, so I won't really be able to dig into this one until I know how much time I can spend on it. I'll keep yall updated!

Well I'm sorry you felt the need to use that language as well. The guy is VERY religious and gives God the credit for his fortune. This isn't a cheesy plastic fish this is a billet piece his mechanic made and painted to match the car exactly. He has a race team for pro-stock bikes and also baja cars that is called "God is Awesome." Just because you wouldnt' do something dont be so quick to judge others for their decisions.

I agree; it looks like a Ferrari-endorsed emblem...
Anyway, I wish you all the very best of luck with this build. Take your time and think ahead for every step. I know you'll build a fantastic model. And think, you are one of the only automodelers in the world who will get to use a REAL Enzo as reference material! Take advantage of this opportunity!

So much controversy for a freakin Enzo with the Jesus fish.. Poor Kat. She was about ready to leave this place, and you turn her thread into this? :shakehead

AHhh..anyway...Glad to see you are making another model Kat! And the enzo...well..wheee!!!! Have fun! Will you get the like 20 sheets of cf decal to do up the whole car? Good luck Kat:)

On to less important things kids...

Hmmm...with that, and that, maybe he's a televangelist. I hear they got oodles of them out thar in Texas. I also don't agree with the jesus fish. It is an angry symbol anymore to me. He should have went and thought about a better personalized lisence plate..Like [GDPWNZME]

It's really awesome you actually got to be around an Enzo to take pics of it, most people could only dream of getting such an opportunity! Good luck on the model, I'm sure it's going to turn out awesome, just be sure to take lots of pics during the buildup, it's always cool seeing all the steps.

On one hand, I never thought I'd see such disrespect for a person's personal beliefs. On the other hand, I'm really not surprised to see it here. Personally, I think it's awesome that the owner is so deeply religious and thankful to God for everything he has. It's rare to see someone as fortunate as him to be truly thankful for what he has. And no, he's no televangelist, he owns an oil company. I'm not positive, but I think he has a fish on his Murcielago as well, and all three of the cars (including the McLaren) have "God is Awesome" stickers on them. More power to him, I say. The Mclaren's plate reads "M Laren" and the Murcielago reads "Mercie" (French for thank you)

fujimituner235, I'm from West Texas, a little ol' po-dunk town called Midland. Nice try on the "HIC" part, but my name is Civic + Chic. It's one of those wit things.

And yes, I feel very fortunate to be able to crawl all over that Enzo, taking pictures and notes so I'll be sure the model is perfect. For this model, I'm going to try to put up a seperate webpage with reference and progress pics. I need to secure the webspace first, and find the time to get it all together. I'm not going to set a timeline for it, but I'd like to have them done before next summer. I still plan on doing a double build, one for me and one for him. As I type Will's in the other room assembling the desk I finally broke down and bought so I'll have more than a lapdesk to work on. Pics of the new workstation coming soon...

And yes, somehow, I will make a 1:24 Jesus fish for this model. And I will be proud of it.

All the drama over the fish is funny... Some would say he is very dedicated to his religion, others would say that he is not obeying the lord by spending his money on himself and not to serve his lord. I say let the man do what he wants, he'll find out what the big man thinks when he gets there.
I do see what Freakmech is saying though, the fish is mostly seen on your common every day grocery getter or college student econo car.... I would probally get a chuckle out of it when I rolled up on it at a light. At least It matches his car and is not a faded chrome plated plastic stick-on.

Good luck with the build, I know it will be a beauty. Are you going to start on the "Mercie" after this one?

08-28-2005, 03:11 AM
I mentioned to the mechanic that Fujimi makes a kit for the Murcie, but he's concerned about the paint match. It's a really pretty burgundy red. In fact, I just bought the kit while on vacation in LA. Finally found it in a hobby shop. We'll see how that goes, if he's happy with the Enzo. I'm afraid I'll get stuck building all his cars; he's also had at one point or another a Diablo and a Countach. I do know the man is very generous to his church and his friends; he recently bought for his mechanic a pristine 1957 Chevy Bel Air because it was the guy's first car...just because.

Funny thing though...I've never actually met the guy, just his mechanic.

Well, got my new workbench set up, if it wasn't 3:30 AM I'd be finishing the Viper!! As is, I'm so tired I don't trust myself not to do something stupid, so it'll have to wait...again... *sigh* You can also see the C6 in line, as well as a Chevelle for my dad and a Corvette for a friend, along with the new Enzo kit.

Enough of the fish talk. Religion is a touchy subject and not relevent in this subforum.

You sure are going to be busy there 99civichic. If you do ahead and build the Murcielago, the colour can be matched by any automotive paint store, just need to get the code. That would also make a good excuse to check the real thing out. ;)

will69camaro
08-28-2005, 01:27 PM
We really never need a reason to go check it out. We just go there and look. The mechanic is a nice guy and lets us check out just about whatever we want. He would have put the Enzo on the lift for us but there was already something on the lift.

This looks wayyyy to neat and clean to be a 'work' bench. I'd call it a display bench  . Wow you are organized....My work bench, as well as most of the others I've seen here look like a toddler was left alone with it for a day.

And hey, if you come across something in your live inspection of the car that you didnt realize just from reference pics, please post as I'm going to start my first enzo soon.

Very cool work area. You have the same Compressor as me ! That's hot !

Oh and about matching the color of the Murcie why don't you check out Cobra Colors. I ordered some Murcielago Verde Artemis from them not too long ago.

99civichic
08-28-2005, 03:56 PM
Well, keep in mind that I just got it set up, so maybe it's a little neater and well, more arranged, than usual...but not much. I can't stand being disorganized, I get really frustrated when I can't find something and then my modelling suffers because of it. Two years ago for Christmas my mom bought me a ton of little plastic organizers, I have yet to find a use for most of them though! I'll have to take a pic in a week or two when I'm actually working.

ImolaEK, that's actually Will's compressor...but I don't know if he'll ever build again (he's a GT4 fanatic) so for now I'm the only one using it. I love it!

Here's the Murcielago:

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/238578Murcielago.JPG

Doesn't really capture the color, but I have yet to see a pic of these cars that really does. The pearl yellow in particular doesn't really photograph nearly as well as it looks for real.

The irony in the license plate is hillarious. Mercie = Mercy (Religion) = Mercy (when racing). I wish I could meet this guy, or even his mechanic, they both seem pretty cool.

If you're in the Lewisville/Flower Mound area, there are two okay ones. There is Hobby Town USA, located in the shopping center on 3040 and Valley Ridge in Lewisville, then the Hobby Lobby located on Main St. and Old Orchard in Lewisville.

There's really nothing in the way of model/hobby shops in Midland, except for Hobby Lobby. I found a few in the DFW area, not much in the way of supplies; the Hobby Town USA on 3040 had some decent stuff and Wild Bill's in Irving had a nice kit selection.

I am very happy that we were able to see some pics. I know we live in a "free country", but let's keep politics and religion out of this forum. Life is to short to freak out about such things as the fish on this guys Enzo! It's his car, he can do what the heck he likes with it... even paint it pink with polka dots if he wants. Secondly, it was very poor judgement to turn this modellers post into what it is now. CivicChic, if your guy wants to say thankyou in French, it is spelled "Merci" with no "e". I live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada if you doubt me;) I look forward to your progress thread for this one.

Whoa, this is starting to go too far.

One man's poison is another man's sugar as they say. I'm one of the least religious people I know but that doesn't mean I have a problem with those who are. There are probably things you do which other people would find 'sad'.

Being 'judgemental' is far more 'uncool' than being religious ;)

(A) it's one mans meat is another mans poison
(B) there are loads of things I do that people would consider sad - like making model cars!
(C) I'm being opinionated not judgemental and as for uncool - I stopped trying to be the fonze years ago!

Still think it looks awful! Can I say I bet he has a great sandal collection? Probably not!

If you don't like my opinion then turn the other cheek (as it says in the good book!)

You can be as judgemental as you want with regards to religion, but I think sticking an awful looking fish on the back of an Enzo Ferrari is a little tacky. But that’s the problem in today’s society so quick to label and sometimes not to think, is this right, is this wrong, will this offend. We all do it, we all offend; do something that someone else will not like. It’s a very un-tolerable world we live in, the tolerance between others can and “will” create war and suffering – Anyone married..!!

He perhaps is grateful for his good fortunes and thanks his religious believes for this by showing his respect and adorning his most treasured possessions with a small god fish. And you have to respect that, but I also see how this could offend or even anger others and result in comments such as we are reading how. The fish DOES looks cheap and tacky; the car is a symbol of power and brute force. Not really a religious symbol at all really so his affixation with his religion and the affixing of the fish to the car has I think tarnished his own belief.

I wouldn’t have thought the circles he belongs to would want to be affiliated with a machine of power, after all would this not be considered a self righteous act of indulgence in which would be a sin? How ironic to affix the fish to such a powerful and expensive car in the first place.

I wish you all the best of luck with the model build, and your friend obviously respects his beliefs, and I will not pass judgement other to say – “the fish looks rubbish, but I fully understand his devotions and why, even if it could be interpreted in the wrong way, he surly believes the fish is for the better good”.

She posted pics of a beautiful car with an added design feature - we are passing comment on the design feature not religion! Who's complaining?
It's gonna be a model of a real car so no different to passing comment on wheels etc!

As for Brandons comment - I have no idea what the first part means and wouldn't expect you to understand the second!
Forget it - if you can't take other peoples honest comments/ opinions/ judgements then what's the point!
Lovely car - great fish!
