radiator overheating,gushing out

Our 88 honda civic overheated and was towed home.I tried putting water in the radiator to see what would happen. The overflow is full but the water comes out quickly right above the place where the belts hook on to above the oil pan.I want to take it to be repaired but heard that the block could be cracked and don't know if that is a symptom of a cracked block or not.If it is, that would cost too much to fix to be worth it on an old car, right? How do I figure out where the hoses are to see if that is it or what it could be?

Are you talking about the water pump perhaps?

HI!
I guess it might be the water pump, but I don't know where the hoses are either to check that.Im a girl, and no practicle experience fixing cars.

This is the first time it overheated and I don't know if it was low on radiator fluid or what because my daughter has been using it for a while and, like me, is new to maintaining cars. It comes out really quickly. I was filling it with a hose and it was coming out pretty quickly in a steady stream, not just a little leak.

She said it made noise before it overheated. Could that be the timeing belt or the water pump breaking?
