I cannot see this sensor, I want to make sure it is connected as I am getting lots of knock when driving it hard. I hear that is by the Exhaust Manifold, But which side? The Power steering side or the other side.
I think I should be looking for a single wire connection looking at a picture of a Knock sensor
Thanks

I just replaced my knock sensor on an 89 buick Lesabre. I finally after a while of searching found that the sensor was on the passenger side at the back of the engine underneath. It was quite difficult to find the correct wrench to get the sensor off. I needed a 20 mm wrench to get it off and I didn't currently have one so I bought one.

The next problem I had was that the wrench was too long. ( wrench kept banging against wires and other components therefore I had very little movement and access) I finally got it off and on, with a combination of the 20 mm wrench and a shorter cresent wrench.

My haynes manual says that it should be underneath the throttle body but mine wasn't.

Hope this made some sense

Glad that you were able to get it. I always bought the service manuals for the cars I purchased from Helm INC or Ford long ago. They are more accurate than the Chidlton's Haynes in my opinion. E.G., somewhere I have the 1967 Mustang manual... someday I'll find someone who wants it bad enough to pay. grin...

If you have a sense of humor after busting knuckles to get you knock sensor out--technically the Haynes manual was right: it was below the throttle body, they just didn't say how FAR below the throttle body!!!

The thing with those Haynes manuals is that they have a wide range of years that they service. My particular version covers LeSabres, Bonnivilles, various oldsmobiles, etc and from 1985 - 2000.

Basically these cars are fairly similar but they do have some minor differences that are not always covered in those books.

It might be just as useful if they say the knock sensor could be found somewhere on the engine.
