Well to make a long story short someone decided that rear-ending my Z28 was a good idea the other day. The rear of the body was crushed so that the the wheel wells are about an inch from the back of the rear tires. My insurance company considers it totaled even though it still drives fine.
Ive been looking around the 'net for a new camaro and would like one of the 4th-gen bodies. Foudn this place and seems like you guys know your stuff. Thing is I don't really know a lot about cars :/ Ive been looking over the years and from what I can gather I liked the ones from '96. My budget will most likely be around $3.5-4K without getting into financing territory. Anybody able to help me out deciding/finding what im looking for? Thanks in advance for any help.

for 3 or 4 grand you could probably find a pretty good 96 v6, or a very well used z28. v6's have 3.8 liter engines in them that push around 200hp stock and about 225 ft/lbs torque. the z28's in the era your looking at 93-97 have lt1 engines which is the 350. the lt1's have about 285hp with even more torque. i think this was the year they brought back the rs name, and the first year they had the v6 spoiler and ground effects kinda like the ones on philly's car. what exactly do you like about the 96's over all the other years?

Well I was looking over the differen't models and what not and came accross this page: http://budgetperformance.com/articles/camaro_history/camaro_history22.shtml
It just seems that they added some nice options in '96. I wanted to keep my budget low so it seemed that to look for someone mid-range in years was a good idea. Of course im no expert on this sort of thing and very appreciative of any advice.
In the future I could see myself learning more and wanting to do some performance enhancement so something that will let me have some fun later on would be a plus.

Oh I see what you're talking about. Know that after the year 96 all Camaros keep getting better and better so dont go saying like "OH I WANT A 96 and ONLY 96.." 97 Camaros look alike until 98 when they changed the nose..
http://www.v6fbody.com/history/98camaro1.jpg See how the headlights are different?
Well if you get a V6 or V8 theres alot of market for them especially the 3.8 V^ which in that page it showed that they bagan using them after the year 96.. so i'd look for 96 and up Camaros. 3-4K will get you a pretty good V6 Camaro, probably a decent Z28, and remember the earlier the model is like 96 comapred to '02 the 96 will be cheaper just cause of the year. :screwy:
Goodluck in your search.

Thats just mean, but i do like the way your pops engine looks. I wanted to get i 92 hertiage badly, but i didn't have the $3500 at the time, so i gots the iroc and it was the best move i made in my life since sliced cheese.

95 1/2 thru '02 had the 3.8L v6 which has 200 h and 225 tq. 93-97 V8's had the lt1. If you search around you can find plenty of LT1s for 4k, and a 3.8 from 95 1/2-97would be well within your budget.

that's why i'm keeping my plans very hush hush , it doesn't have power brakes or power steering so who knows might happen soon. but it was smoking out the right exaust pipe so ran a compression test and it's got about 30 psi on the #2 cylendar, while the others are all around 130-140. so we're just gonna rebuild the engine + we'll finally get to know exactly what's in the thing too, hoping to find some good stuff :icon16:

Yeah, mine is like the one in the sig, but not nearly as nice lookin, i really need a paint job. The 4.11 made on hell of difference, even with the 305, i hit 60 really quick now, atleast faster than before. Feel alot smoother, like i get more traction now. I guess two wheels are better than one!
