99 Rodeo having problems shifting gears

My 99 Rodeo seems to have nothing but problems lately. First of all, my ABS light has randomly been coming on lately. In addition, I have an automatic and it seems to be having trouble shifting gears, the car practically jumps to get into 2nd gear. It seems to be okay once I get on the highway, just see the jumping when switching the lower gears.

Anybody have any insight into these problems?

When is the last time you changed the tranny fluid?

Check the tranny fluid level?

Also another common problem is a dirty range selector (see the FAQ's for a how to on cleaning it).

My ABS light comes on periodically. I haven't yet checked out the sensor. It may be getting some junk or moisture in there. I read it should be cleaned and sealed with gasket sealer or somehting similar.

I just heard on the radio a new reason for irratic tranny shifting. The caller thought he had a bad solenoid but the on air expert said that he had dirty fuel injectors. The theory was that his car was running lean and not reving high enough for the speed the shift points are set at. The caller had replaced the egr twice and the o2 sensors.

I just went through emissions testing and passed with flying colours. I had some past experience with a product called "Gauranteed to Pass". My mini van failed emissions and the shop wanted to charge me 700 dollars to fix it. I called my brother on an unrelated note and he asked what I was doing and I told him that I just failed emissions. He screamed for me to get the hell out of there and put this product in my van and run out the full tank and get it tested somewhere else. I did and I passed.
Now with the Rodeo and the burning oil and black soot on the tail pipe I decided to use this product with a full tank of 94 octane gas. I ran out the gas and refilled with 89 octane and got tested. What I did notice is that the car has a lot more pep and the shifting is a lot better. My only problem now is that I'm now hard on the brakes.

Thats a good thing to switch grades of gas. Anything higher than 89 octane is a waste of money. There is no benefit to using high octane in a Rodeo or many other cars.
