92 Auto trans-Hard Shifting

My brother's 92 5sfe auto Camry with 153000 shifts hard in all gears. The harder you push the gas the harder it slams when upshifting. It does not slip, shifts when it should, but acts like it is shifting into the next higher gear TOO fast. Could this be a solenoid problem or something more involved? It's done this for as long as I can remember, but I am using it because my Focus is down and it's breaking my neck it shifts so hard. The tranny fluid and filter were changed not too long ago and that didn't help. ANY IDEAS???

Check the adjustment of the kick-down cable. it should be in the middle for an OEM ride.

If you tighten it, it'll become very sport, upshift early & change gears faster.
If it's loose, it'll will try to hold gears, and give a slow shift that slams into gear.
