cold air intakes

i recently got my truck lifted, and im wanted to get some of my power back. i have a 4.8 2001 silverado. i was wondering which air intake you guys would recommend.

from what I see here, the K&N FIPK GENII kits are the rage. CHeck ebay for best prices.

I'm kinda partial to this set up.

I've really not heard anything bad about any of them. Some will keep the box with the idea it picks up less hot air from the engine while others (suck as myself) believe they're more restrictive in air flow. I got my FIPK GenII on eBay for about $205 delivered and it only took about 45 minutes to install (easy). It also allows you to use your stock mass air flow sensor. The system is really well built. After you install it, it'll take a couple of short trips for the computer to dial it in, but that'll happen fast. When I first put mine in, it sputtered the first trip around the block. By the next day it was smok'n :smokin:

I myself weighed out pros and cons, My major concern was for when I take the truck out and go off roading, the K&N is a good system in my opinion for a street truck, it will give you good performance but the draw back to me is the open element airfilter. I chose the Volant because of the enclosed box design and the performace numbers they had posted. And if you wanted to add a little more oomph, they offer a ram air pipe. Well to get to the point, I went with the volant to reduce my chances of sucking up water and clogging the filter with mud. Well good luck with choosing.

Like I said, it's baker's choice. I don't plan to go off road so I like the total air access. You can realy hear the air being sucked in. Since it's basically where the box would be (IE fairly well protected), I'm not too concerned about rain and such and I haven't heard any complaints in that department from anyone else. I can see where the box would be desirable for off roading.

i assume you put larger tires on in addition to the lift? if so that raised your final gear ratio. that will reduce low speed uummp. reprograming for the tires wiill help.
