.40 is redicuals. .30 is N/A gap. I don't reamber if factory gap is .26 or .28 for the 4g63t.
They were probably running hotter plugs and broke their tips in the combustion chamber. Not the plugs fault. Bad sellection of plug.

I found an old post by Kevin where he recommends that below 20 psi you run a gap of 0.028 - 0.030" and above 20psi you should decrease that slightly.

The N/A gap is much larger. Around .045"-0.050" with stock setup.
4g63t gap should be between .027"-.035". Just play with it until you hit the sweet spot.
BTW, my plugs are gapped at .065" because of the upgraded ignition coil and larger spark plug wires. Gas mileage increased, and power at WOT is slightly better. I thought it was a HUGE gap, but it idles better and just overall runs better.

Stock recomend gap on the turbo cars was 28 to 31. As quoted above I would recomend 28 at the most on stock ignition, and for people with mean setups smaller gaps may be required. My car wouldnt run at all at WOT at anything over 25 or 26. People with upgraded ignitions have reported getting away with over 30 on the gap at high power. Ultimately the larger the gap the better, until it misfires, if you are the experimental type. ;) But 28 will work for 95% of DSMers.
