My new tune is in

Well I got my retuned pcm in yesterday. Its for the 87 octane with 80% TM removed. At first, I could tell a difference in power, like it was sluggish, but now, after only about 100 miles of break in time, its waking up. There is hardley any difference in power right now, and I hope it wakes up even more with a few hundered more miles on it.
I think the TM I removed made a big difference. I haven't been able to check mileage yet b/c I'm still driving like hell to break it in.
I hope it yields better mileage, b/c the power feels about the same.

whats a TM? :screwy: Seriously........
It's Torque Management. These trucks have electronic trannys, that are controled by the PCM. Basically the TM will not allow you to f-up the power train. Try it out by power braking.... The truck will rev to 2000RPM and will go no higher. Floor the gas pedal at a light and the truck takes off nice and slow.....ect...

I may only have the hypertech, but it does jump off the line much nicer now...a stock '04 Mustang found out about that last night on the way home from work at midnight (no other comment needed ):smokin:

Just a bit of background. Silverado trucks have different transmissions in them (if automatics). The standard is 4l60 which needs a bunch of torque management to keep the safety level of not harming it. My transmission is the 4l65 and can take a little heavier treatment. While you might take as much as 25% or 40% of T.M. off with a programmed tune chip on a 4l60, you can safely take 40% to 60^ off with a 4l65 or 4l80.
T.M. gives you the hesitation when you are going from a stopped position to moving 25 mph. Taking it off gives you a more direct and less hesitation movement.

NO.
only a PCM tune like Nelson can do this for you.

Well its been a few days now, and I've been driving the hell out of it. I can tell the mileage went up some, as I only put 18 gallons in it after burning all of the 93 out and I've been as far on that as I ususally get on a full tank. The power feels about the same now, but man will it spin MUCH easier. Having 80% TM removed was the trick! I still think that removing the cats helped this out some as well.
I do hoever, still have a detonation problem. It pings like hell...I dunno what the deal is. Its done this ever since I've had the new engine. All I can say is that Allen Nelson is the man when it comes to tunes! I sure won't settle for anything less. :D

my truck from a stop on pavement with stock tires or my new tires will not spin, might get a little bark but thats it. and yes when i tried i turned the traction control off. i dont know why, i have driven a few other trucks that seem the same way.

Mine will burn the poor old Goodyear's up. I need to take some pics of 2 (posi) really good marks I left one night. Powerbraking is nothing now, If only my shifts were firmer, I want to be able to bark 2nd at least, 3rd would be nice too. I guess I need to get my shift kit next.

thats weird, my little 4.8 with only intake and exhaust will spin for a good bit, and this is without powerbreaking.

Powerbraking is kinda cool and all but, why would you want to tear up your brakes just to smoke the tires a little?
PS -- Mine will smoke the rear tires from a light too without batting an eye.

open, maybe thats why its so easy, but i still feel it would still do it when i eventualy get my eaton LSD. Maybe a little harder, but should still do the trick (powerbreaking).

I dident know the Z71 came with that form the factory, do you think it would be worth it to get one from a salvage yard or just buy a brand new Eaton?

I dunno how much an Eaton costs, nor how much a used rear wiht a G80 would cost. I do know that mine locks when its needed. Its worked fine for me so far. Sometimes it locks and has a hard time unlocking, but I guess that can be expected with any LSD
