I am new to the forum and I have a 2005 GTP. I was wondering what would be a good first mod for me to look into? I don't want to spend more than about $300 and I have a good general mechanical abilities (by no means any sort of mechanic). I want a good starting mod that isn't terribly difficult to install. Thanks.

A new pulley. About $70 and fairly easy to install. I'm not sure what factory size the '05 uses, but on the older models you could get a 15-35hp boost depending on the size.

A 3.4 pulley is a great mod but it shouldnt be your first mod by any means IMO. Start off with a fender well intake or a cold air intake. Our generation 2 blowers scream once you have that on(bad ass). Then go with you exhaust mods. remove the resonator. I up graded to a 2.5 inch cat-back. Custom mandrel bent. before all that put a 180* themastat in the car. You have to make sure its running colder than normal. Then if your not abusing the knock retard (you need a scanner for this) then you may throw on the 3.4 press on pulley or the modualr pulley system. If you dont open your car so it can breath you can blow a piston. BOOM! Your car stock is like you or I sucking a thick milkshake through a straw. You cant breath in that process.

I forgot one other thing you need to get colder spark plugs. I went with Autolits 104s. the 104 is the p/n. There cheap and there good plugs, but you do need to change a lot more frequent than stock plugs. Maybe ever 10k miles.

So a good start would be CAI with 180 thermostat and colder plugs. Can anyone recommend a good CAI and where to order it?

There are a few places you can go to.

Check out the following

3800performance.com
ZZperformance.com
PFYC.com

If you want to budget yourself go to HomeDepot and get flex tubing and just order a K&N filter. You can do it for about $50 give or take. I have the SLP Fender Well Intake and that ran me about $200.00. You can get the Thrasher for about $240.00 and that comes with a heat shield if your just going to do the Cold Air Intake.

MikeS3, just curious but do the stock '04/'05 GPs still have the PCM in the air box. One of my considerations for a CAI was to have a place to properly mount the PCM once the stock air box is removed. Thrasher and MSP or other companies have this area covered.

Yes, they are still in the air box, but they are much smaller than the 97-03s. I mounted mine where the box portion of the stock intake was located. I used tie wraps and works great. It doesnt even get that dirty sitting all open like that

Thanks for the info MikeS3. May come in handy if I ever decide to get an 04/05 GP but I'm leaning towards the new GTO. I test drove one and it was sweet.

I interested for when the G8 comes out in the next couple years. After I am done (hopefully) with college in 07' that might be something to consider.

The GTO just seems like a teenagers car to me. All I've seen are little punks drive this car around, at least in my area.

If its a teenager driving a GTO thats because mom & dad are footing the bill including insurance.

BTW - When you get over 50 y.o you have a tendency to revert back to being a teenager. :lol2:

Nonetheless, that LS2 engine kicks butt.
