Exhaust Systems

Just need a bit of info on how an exhaust system is setup.
Do the headers (Extractors) go from the engine to the CAT then the exhaust (and mufflers) from there to the end? or are there other bits in between?
Thanks.

Exhaust manifold (or headers) > pipe > catalithic converters (can be single or multiple inline) > pipe > mufflers (can be more than one)

This is a typical setup, some a differn than others, such as v motors that merge into a single exhaust, I have seen addition cats after a muffler, and stuff like that.

some of them have resonators or something, there are some v engines will have an h pipe to connect the two pipes together to have equal pressure in both.

A resonator is technically a type if muffler, more of an expansion chamber though.
