I am looking for a car that has both good looks and a lot of power. I really like the new design of the eclipse GT although many hate it which is why im considering it. Ive read a lot about the car not being fast enough but i also heard that it was fast anywhere from 5.5s to 6.8s from 0-60 so how should i figure this stuff out which is true and which isnt.

Does anyone know if i will be able to add a lot to this car speed wise or should I take my car shopping other places.

ps i dont like the nissan 350z

at the moment, there is no way that you can make the car faster unless you custom build a turbo kit.

I would give it sometime if you plan to mod out this car. They are quick I have driven the 6 speed GT and believe me it has the power. But until someone starts to build some aftermarket acessories for it you aren't going to be able to upgrade the engine with out doing a custom job for it.

welll you figure it out if its true or not, by trying it out for yourself...i heard the biggest issue w/ the new eclipse is getting traction on the same stock Goodyear RSA's they've overused the last too many years

The new Eclipses look very nice, especially with the optional "sports body kit" from the factory (they add a front and rear lip and something with the sides). I'd love to own one, and people who have driven the GT say its very fast (10 hp less than the Evo, right?). Go for it man, dropping in an intake and exhaust alone will up the HP, and then you can wait for turbo kit ;)

yeah only 10hp less, but if u figure drivetrain, it'll run the evo to the ground on the highway cuz it's only fwd
seems more like a roll queen to me

I personally would like to get a new eclipse but If I do decide to get one I'm definatly going to wait a few years so they A-Get the kinks out and B-come out with a turbo version.

i hate to break the bad news to you....but mitsu is not putting out another turbo version of the eclipse. sorry. it would be stupid on their part b/c then it would take away from the sales of the evo

My mom just got the 2006 GT. I drove it and if feels pretty quick. throttle response is awesome at low/modorate speeds. The price was the big sell point for her. The GT with all the options was only 28K. A 350Z is, I think, around 35K. We did a lot of research and for a new car with a good warranty, the eclipse was for her the best car for the price. it had performance and interior appeal(fosgate system). The only other car that came close was the SRT-4, but... it's a neon and the warranty didn't compare. After market stuff will come eventually. Hahn racecraft is all ready working on making a turbo system for the mivec engine.

If you want to go fast buy a Mustang, SRT-4 or SS Cobalt.

SS Cobalt? You've gotta be kidding me. That's around 205 hp... not to be bench racing here, but the new GT (even the old ones, lol) should be able to smoke it without second thought. The Eclipse has better figures on paper than the SRT-4, and Mustang...which one of the ten thousand available trims? lol. I think people need to drive the new Eclipse first hand to be able to pass judgement on performance though...exterior and interior we can all blast or admire without much ado though, for obvious reasons.

Eclipse GT 263 HP 3500 lbs. Power to weight: 13.3 MSRP $23,699
Mustang GT 300 HP 3500 lbs. Power to weight: 11.6 MSRP $25,610
SRT-4 230 HP 2900 lbs. Power to weight: 12.6 MSRP $21,195
SS Cobalt 205 HP 2950 lbs. Power to weight: 14.3 MSRP $23,495 with optional limited–slip differential.

All of the cars I listed out handle the Eclipse, the SS being the best handling car which is why a listed it even though it’s a little low on power it can be modified a lot and would ultimately be a better car then the SRT-4.

The gen 1 & 2 gen Eclipses are good cars because there light. I don’t know what Mitsubishi was thinking with the new Eclipse, the thing weighs more then most RWD sports cars. The only advantage FWD cars have over RWD cars is there usually lighter. There is no point in buying a heavy sport compact, it’s like buying a hybrid that gets bad gas mileage.

not to u kno, rain on anyone's parade, but like the ls1 engine, GM under-rated the cobalt SS, it can definitely smoke the older GT's (3rd gen) and w/ slight mods SS's should be able to keep up w/ the 4g gt
