Wheel Lug Strut Replacement on 2002

I went crazy with an impact wrench and need to replace a lug strut. Any instructions on how to do it? It's the front right and I can remove the wheel, caliper, and rotor yet the lug struts still cannot be driven out. Does the large nut (approx 1 3/4") on the end of the axil have to be removed? What size is it?
