I saw DEVO. And they were awesome.

A friend scored some free tickets to the "lost eighties" show that came to Denver yesterday. Amongst those playing that day were Missing Persons, Flock of Seagulls, English Beat, and of course the one and only DEVO.
Some things I took note of, the lead singer of Missing Persons has gone totally insane. She talked about her 16 cats, her children, and various other things for about five minutes before one song, she was also drinking and smoking while singing.
Quite depressingly, Flock Of Seagulls no longer has outrageous hair. Most of their music still sucks after twenty years. But in all fairness, of all the bands there, they probably had the best mixing going for them.
Oh, but DEVO. DEVO no longer tours regularly, and they haven't recorded an album since 1990 - but they still haven't split up, and they still kick ass. It was weird seeing them all old, a little heavier, a little grayer, (you only remember them how they were in their music videos that aired on MTV decades ago).
The other bands basically just stood around and played music, DEVO performed. I think they only played one song that they made after Oh no it's DEVO because it was the only song I'd never heard before (and oh no it's DEVO is the last album I've heard in it's entirety). Everybody was excited for Whip It, but my friends and I were much more enthusiastic about them playing Mongoloid, which was actually probably the best performed song of the evening.
Other songs I remember from last night included Blockhead, Wiggly World, Uncontrollable Urge, Gut Feeling, Jocko Homo, come back jonee, Satisfaction, Freedom of Choice, That's Good and a couple others I can't remember right now.
I'm just glad I got to see them live, since in another ten years it's unlikely they'll still be doing any tours.
Are we not men? - We are DEVO!

I live just south of Denver.
Wish I would have known about that show.

Yeah I guess the show was promoted very poorly. I knew it was going to happen, but I didn't even know where or when it was until the day before. They played at fiddler's green so you probably weren't too far away if you live just south of Denver.

My god talk about an 80's revival tour. I can almost feel the blow running through my system. DEVO is alright, but comeon flock of seagulls??? I couldn't be paid to see them. Peace-
