Air Conditioning Problem

This has been a problem from the start, i've only decided to do something about it now cuz I'm slowly fixing the other serious problems hehe

The Air Conditioning needs regassing right, went to get it done thru a mate, had it all plugged in and everything but we couldn't get it to engage. He didn't have enuf time to have a decent look but we ran a diagnostics using the plug in computer thing and it said everything was fine. I'd never bothered to look at it before cuz I figured there was no point in using it without any gas. Pressing the button on the air con display **** in the car doesn't engage it. The only way I can get it going is to bypass the relay with 2 screw drivers so it must be something between the relay box and the head unit for the air con. I've checked all the fuses under the dash and they're all fine.

Anyone have any ideas wot it could be?

:frog: check the ac relay with a test light and the Ing turned on, there should be two (2) hot wires if not there is a hidden fuse, ana it could been in the right kick panel!

I thought I had the same problem, but it turned out that the compressor was out of oil and had stuck. I had it serviced and it's ok now.

I assume you are talking about the aircon/heater control unit in the centre of th dash. They are natorious for going out. If you are handy with a soldering iron you could remove it , disassemble it carefully then desolder and resolder all the connections. Odds are you will find dry solder joins are the problem.

Barring that I would see if you can get your hands on a second hand relay unit.

There is another thing you can check. I assume you have an R32, and possibly the R33 is the same, checkto make sure the cabin air temp pickup hose is connected to the backside of the surround that your stereo, aircon units site in, it is a plastic surround I am talking about. At the bottem right hand conrner you will see a couple of small slits. A hose connects up to the backsidet here. You will see where it goes on once you have it removed. Also if memory serves me right there is another connection associated with that part there.
