Back fire after new cap / rotor

Update:

I think I fixed this, I took off the cap and rotor and noticed that the rotor metal clip was bent to hell and the button under the cap was wore off to the point it was against the plastic housing. Both were brand new, my only guess is that i didn't push the rotor in all the way and it was wearing on the cap


I threw new wires on my '95 dodge ram 1500 4x4 last week. I didn't have the cap / router at the time so I replaced that two days ago. I started it up, before the truck was really really doggy, I was surprised to see how well it performed with the new cap / rotor. As I drove it around I heard popping noises, at first I didn't think about it (never had vehicle that back fired). I then noticed it when I would accerlate past 40-50mph. I came home, noticed the cap wasn't screwed in all the way on one side and fixed that. Early in the day I noticed the RPM's would jump around a little on startup. After I screwed down the cap the RPM's seemed to be better. I revved the engine to 3000rpm and it backfired again. I checked and the plug wires match a '94 dodge ram that I have sitting here (on the cap), they matched..........I noticed this TSB here:

Is that just a bunch of dodge shit? Can having a plug wire not on their mounting bracket really do funky bullshit? Any other thoughts?

are you sure you have wires on correctly? And did you put the cap back on the way it should be making sure all your cylinders are matched up? I'd check that first.
