I recently went on a long distance trip ( total 1000 miles ) in our corolla 2001 LE. It was very hot outside ( 100 degree ), so the AC was running all the time. I noticed that the fuel milage dropped to 26 m/gallon as opposed to 38 m/gallon I normally get on highways . The tire pressure was correct and maintaince is upto date.
Is this a normal drop in mileage when the AC is running ?
thanks

well a A/C compressor will steal hp and MPG.. but weight also.. so, if your like 4 -5 people in the car, got the AC running, got luggage for 4 -5 people and to top it off, you got some steep hills and let on the cruise control go it's own way to climb the hills at 65 - 70...
yeah i believe you could get this kind of MPG
oh and don't forget, too hot or too cold WILL affect MPG also
if you think you should have don emore MPG than usual, then you should get new spark plugs, air filter and oil changed.. thats to start with.
