Window Replacement

Hey guys. Well my rear drivers side window was shot out by some little kids yesterday so i need to replace it. My only problem is that i am not sure i can figure out how to take off my door panel. I have tried everything that i can think of. Pulling, pushing, lifting, you name it. BTW it is an 88 MGM. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.

I had an 86.

You should be able to get a screwdriver (or better, a wide bladed wood chisel or similar) between the door fabric and the door, near the bottom. Find the plastic parts that hold the door panel to the door, and pop them off. You'll probably break a couple, but replacements are available @ auto parts stores.

Next you'll need to remove the door handles and the armrest.

Once you've removed all the parts, the door panel should be hanging by the upper surface, and should lift right out.

thanks alot. well i figured that out but do you know how to take out the window?

If I recall correctly, there is either a bolt or a brad that holds the glass to the window mechanism. Might be tough to find since those kids broke the glass....but look near the center channel (that guides the window up and down) and look for attachment points. You'll likely have to do some contortions to see/feel it, space is a bit tight. It might actually be easier to take the entire channel out, mine were attached top and bottom with bolts to the door. Disconnect the electrical connections and you can pull it out of the door. You might not have to pull the entire thing out, but you'll be able to do the prep work if there's any drilling required for the brads. I think there's a bolt replacement kit available from auto parts stores. It's been a long time since I sold (well, donated) my 86; hope that's helpful....

how do u get the actual glass frame out do u know?

By frame, do you mean a border on the glass/ I don't think there is one. It's been awhile so I don't think I could explain it well, sorry; you'll have to take a look at it once you have it apart.
