Gradient tool in channels (or layer selections) in Photoshop

yo Al....and any of you other Jeri-atrics....here it is.

Basically the gradient tool in Photoshop works just like in Illy except you need a defined selection area first.

In photoshop define your selection area. In doing it the Jeri way (channels) use your selector channel.

click the magic wand (or whatever you define selections with on layers)

here's my selected area (marching ants)

click the gradient tool. In channels it works on percentages of grey but renders the color as specified by the channel. In layers select the foreground and background colors you want to blend.

here's that section after I redid the blend on the right channel...lolol

seriously it's just like Illy but with a preselected area.

Many times I'll throw a slight blend from black to white or a 20% grey then select the airbrush while my selection is still active and set the brush percentage very very low..something like 8% or 11% and slowly airbursh in an area. The area on the bottom of the side where I have that little half circle shape is done that way.

Another nifty trick is to expand your selection by a pixel or 2 before you add gradients or airbrush effects in your channels. This will sink the edge of your blend or brush into the selector channel lines or base lines of your car and create nice seamless effects all the way around.

That's it.

Have fun.
