well on saturday my check engine light came on.so no big deal my trucks running good ,no problems so i'm not worried.yesterday(monday)took it to the dealership for an oil change and to check the light. service rep say ok $30 for the oil change and $90 to check the light
my mouth drops i said what about the 3 warrenty it expired last month(july) im like damn my luck. so i tell him just the oil change i'll buy the scanner myself
today driving to work the truck felt weird twice it seemd to rev then screech the tires during a normal take off. so i said ill check it when i get home
i get home pull into my new brick driveway.and what do i have STAINS
so i crawl under the truck every thing is cover with oil i call the dealership at 5pm the say all the macnics have left but bring it in tomorrow. he said sometimes they dont tighten the drain plug all the way
i looked in my haynes repair book and it say my 02 takes 5 qts but on my recept they charge me for 6 qts
so my question are
does an 02 rodeo hold 6 qrt?
would over filling cause the tranny to slip?
if they did overfill it and the gaskets are bad .besides fixing everything how else to you think i should be compensated for my time and troubles of scrubing clean my new drive way
oh ya i bought a scanner for 70 bucks and in 1 min i found the code a po401... is 1 mins worth of work worth 90 dollars from a dealership
thanks for any advice

I believe that code is for insufficient EGR flow. Try cleaning the EGR and hopefully that will take care of that.
The oil problem can be comming from numerous areas. Hopefully it is just a loose drain plug or an improperly installed filter. Last winter I had a mechanic do my oil because it was real cold out. They didn't do the filter right and it started comming out. Messed up the underside and I still have it all over my skid plate. Makes me messy every time I take it off. It is ashame about the driveway. Should come off fairly easy though, since it is clean oil. Use a good, safe oil cleaner.
See if you can pinpoint the area it is leaking from and make them note the problem they caused, incase you have problems down the road. You shouldn't have a problem though. It would be good to know where it is comming from.

Sometimes they oil filter gasket sticks to the mount and then they install the new oil filter over the old gasket. Usually results in a huge leak though.

I would drain a bit out if you are much more then a quater inch over the full mark.
Your dealer may be use to seeing lots of oil burning 3.2 and 3.5L and they solve it by overfilling it.

If they didnt take the skidplate off for the oil change, the oil drippage you are getting is probably just from spilled oil sloshing around on the plate. It's best to handle oil changes yourself on these trucks. Like the other guys say, clean your EGR per amigo-2K's FAQs.

ok i took it back today they said the leak is from the transmission cover seal??? or something with a gasket, they said the oil is fine.this new serivce rep asked me when did i buy it. i told him my 3 year warrenty expired last month. hesaid dont worry i'll make sure it gets cover. where monday's service rep #1 wouldnt even scan the check engine light under warrenty
is service rep #2 really nice our do you think they realized they screwed something up
im mean it's kind of ironic monday i get an oil change then tuesday i notice a huge leak with my tranny???
and to top it off at 330pm they had no one to drive the shuttle so i left the truck and walk an hour to my mother in laws house(everyone was at work so i couldnt get a ride)
sorry i had to vent

Sounds like this was the infamous accumulator piston cover leak. Common to the 4L30E. Good thing you addressed it right away as running these units low on ATF kills them quick.

I work in the auto biz as a dent guy and I don't trust most of the service writers or mechanics. I had the Izusu service dept tell me that my 99 3.2 rodeo had an interferance engine. Had him ask the mechanic for clarification, He came back and said Yup, It's positively an interferance motor. Thats why I appreciate this forum.
