I am giving my truck an upgrade on my bday next month and wanted some advice on which mod to get
so far pretty much stock except for flowmaster exhaust
Thinking about headers or air intake maybe electric fans
I would appreciate some feedback on what to get next, brand price and even best places to shop. In other words if it was your truckwhat would you get next.. 5.3l 2000 long bed regular cab

The fans or the intake will give you a more noticable gain in power. I have heard you can get fans from an Camero or Firebird in the junk yard and A wiring harness from Allen Nelson to make it work with the truck. The electric fans should give you 10 hp and a cooler running engine, but a K&N intake would probably be cheaper and easier to install.

Dr. Are you referring to the FIPK cold air intake, or you mean the actual intake manifold?

If you have the Flowmaster, the next two logical steps in my mind would be, first the fipk:

I had a regular K&N with my stock air intake (and it did help), but installing the FIPK was a significant jump.
Secondly, as for the fan to cool, you might consider replacing the T-stat to a 160 degree one. I did that and my engine runs 30-40 dgrees cooler and better. You may have to shop around though to find one. I ended up going to a more specialized custom/performance store to find it...and by the way HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Happy B-day, I kinda went the same route as you. I did the flowmaster exhaust first, Then i put a Volant cool air intake on the truck. I have a Z-71 and the volant was more practical for me. I has an enclosed box so it not sucking in hot air from the engine like an open element filter. The Volant also offers a ram air tube that will mount through you stock air dam. I havent decided whether to get the fans or headers. I think im going the Header direction. I've been looking at Borla (million mile warranty) and possibly Arizona Speed Marine headers. Borla are a short tube and the ASM are mid length. Its all in what you want to get out of your truck. If you looking for cost: fans will be cheaper. Good luck
