A first hand account from a DJ booked to play at the party stated that while police were arresting a man accused of narcotic possession, the suspect was beaten to the ground and continually "kicked in the ribs" by four armed "soldiers" dressed in camouflage. According to the account, nobody resisted the policemen but tear gas was still used as partiers were already peacefully dispersing. The DJ also states that police were attempting to confiscate video equipment, but an amateur video has still surfaced on the internet (see sources below).

The mormons must really hate the rave music.

Seems like the gun happy "authorities" of Utah will mostly likely be fucked in the end paying out their asses to settle up in court for people who have been hurt. Wouldn't it be great if you went to see a Phish or (insert big name band here) concert and all of a sudden swat came in and started beating up a bunch of hippies or whatever because some of them were high or drunk or whatever? I think they should round up everybody who was involved in this and have the innocent people beat the fuck out of the "authorities" involved at gun-point just to even up the score...

I didn't know party's were illegal.

Unless of course there was some kind of substance abuse going on...

But at a rave? Naw...Those are just for flashy lights and rockin your socks off.

What bugs me most is the part that says
Utah County (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah_County%2C_Utah) requires a permit, bond and county commission approval for all gatherings with more than 250 people present.

Which seems to be in direct opposition to the Constitution which I quote
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

I don't see anything in there determining the size of the gathering.

Meh. A big rave, most likely populated by its share of scumbags (those types always show up at these kind of gatherings) plus a big police force, apparently populated by its share of knuckle-dragging pigs (the type that get a kick out of beating up unarmed civilians) equals yet another instance of rights-issue debates. And so the world continues to turn.

Hmm, I should have quoted this before it disappeared from the wikipedia page.

It went something like "A source inside the Utah enforcement office (or city council or something) said the rave was broken up because of fears of it rallying support for the upcoming anti-bush protest)

*edit* found it:

A source inside the Utah government reports that this action was undertaken out of fear that the Rave would be used to rally support for the protest against Bush's Utah visit.

Free speech huh?

Anyways, there's always drug takers/dealers at any sort of music event. All concerts. What's the big deal. Go for the music, if someone offers you drugs there and you tell them no, 9/10 they will fuck off and find someone else. Let people take what they want, its none of your business. If the cops are so wound up about drugs, they should have drug checks at the door of EVERY. SINGLE. FUCKING. EVENT. There are fucking 13 year olds selling drugs at the junior high dances. Are they going to charge in there with batons, dogs and tasers as well?

This was a blatant display of abuse of power in a country whose government continues to bleat on about how many liberties people have. Land of the fucking free, indeed.

There weren't just people with drugs there. There were people with guns as well, guns they didn't have permits for. Some of these people assaulted officers; maybe that is why they got hurt. I don't give a fuck what why you're slicing it these people were breaking the law so they have to deal with the consequences. If you don't like the law move somewhere else or try to do something to get it changed. Fact is don't break the law and you won't have to worry about getting in trouble.

the amendment says "Congress shall make no law"

laws are perminent aplying all the time... they needed a permit, which is an exception that they have to get permission for...
