1988 bronco II problems

i have a 88 bronco ii, recently it just shut down, fuel pumps working, sensors and relays working. but i did notice the check engine light was on, even when i pulled key from ignition. called ford garage they said i had a bad ecm relay so checked it it was good. i have unplugged all sensors and relays one by one to see when check engine light would go out and it doesnt. can someone tell me if my engine computer is bad . could my alternator be shorted causing the computer not to shut down. i am really at my last leg on this one. it will run when starting fluid is sprayed in so i know im not getting an injector pulse (yes my fuel pumps are good i have great pressure) the only thing i can think of lies between the alternator shorted and causing the ecm to stay powered on, on the computer its self is just bad . please help me

Try Checking Your Inertia Switch Or You Might Have A Short.try Disconnecting Your Negative Cable And With A Test Light Grounded To The Frame Or Engine Touch The Positive Terminal With The Other End Of The Test Light.make Sure Everything Is Off And Doors Closed.if It Lights Up Theres A Short Or A Closed Cricut.if It Don't Have Someone Open The Door To See If The Test Light Comes On.or You Can Disconnect The Battery For A Few Seconds.or You Can Try Checking You Ignition Switch.

See that is all good with the trouble light but I have heard that if you have a radio that has a clock on it and has a memory to keep the correct time that the trouble light will light up.... Just something to think about there... had an 87 bronco II and it was a pain in my butt there at the end...

I have also heard that when the computer goes out on a car/truck that the car/truck will not want to run. Bronco's are such a joy when trying to FIND the problem when it comes to electrical stuff... but I wouldn't trade mine in for anything. I love it!!!

The Negative battery post has a small wire with a terminal connection on it seperate from primary negative cable. This smaller cable is meant to pull out the connection and stop power to engine in case of a rollover. My terminal did not make the connection and the bronco ii would not crank. Maybe this will help you.
