i bought my 01 focus about 2 weeks ago with about 58000 miles on it. a few days later, ive had a problem with the ignition. ill hold down the clutch, turn the key, and nothing will happen. ill push the clutch back down, turn the key again, and still nothing. usually it take about three tries before the damn thing actually turns over...anybody else have this problem? thanks-charlie

check for a bad clutch safety switch. unplug the connector from the clutch pedal and jump the wires and try to start it...if it starts, either you have a bad or misadjusted switch. easy fix either way.

also check all the wiring coming off the battery to the starter to be sure it is correctly connected. Also check the chassis ground, although that's probably not it with your lights coming on. and the clutch safety switch is located at the upper most part of the clutch pettal.

yeah i was shifiting gears and my shoes where wet. MY foot slipped and i didnt know but i kicked the clutch peddle switch. Then the next time i went to start my car my car wouldnt start. I say the wire hanging. So i popped the clutch and took it to a ford delarship. They fixed the problem for me by replacing it . thank god for warranty
