swap interceptor comp for civ comp?

I've always had a problem with mileage. I'm lucky if I get 350 kms out of a tank of gas on the highway. A comp scan showed that the O2's were bad so I replaced the 02 sensors, got rid of the cats (put sims for the back 02 sensors), put in 2 1/4" exhaust with dynomax mufflers. All the helped some got an extra 125 kms out of a tank. I've been told an interceptor comp is tuned different than a civ one. So I'm wondering if I can pick up a civ comp and swap it for my interceptor comp without having any problems and if it would actually give me better mileage?

what year do you have?

oops forgot that part, it's a 95. This probably sounds like a strange idea but it's my daily driver and mileage seems way too low. I have little knowledge about vics, so don't know if sensors vary from different models or if the speedo will be out or anything. So any advice or opinions at all are appreciated.

with a 95, you could slip in a civi ecm... but you wont notice a lot of mpg increase. you will notice less hp(somewhat) and weaker shifts.

if your mpg is that bad, it is time for a tune up.

hmmm, ok was hoping that would help. I've done the plugs and wires, cleaned the egr, air filter. About the only thing I haven't gotten a chance to change is the fuel filter, not sure if that would possibly boost my mileage up or not I've seen claims of people getting 350 mpg and I'm lucky if I get 230mpg. to me it seems like I'm running out of things to change that could help unless I'm missing something crucial.

how do you drive, how far do you drive, have you had any codes read yet?...

for the next couple of fill ups actually figure out your mpg. this is much more curate than letting us know how many miles per tank ya get.

I've had the codes read a few times, all that's ever come up is egr and o2's and have fixed both of them. Driving around town I don't expect good mileage with all the stop and go. On the highway though I do between 60 to 65 mph. It's so scary seeing half a tank burned in a little over 2 hours of highway driving especially with the top half seemingly the bigger half. I've never been able to drive for 4 hours on the highway straight without having to hit a gas station. I'm aware these cars aren't econoboxes, but a buddies tbird gets better mileage same year with a 4.6L. BTW thanks for trying to help me out with this. I'll redo the calculations for a couple tanks but last time I did it I was getting 17 mpg.

17 mpg with 3.27 gears is not that bad.

it could be all about your driving style and how far you drive.

i was averaging 15-18mpg with 3.55 gears. then with my mods i averaged a solid 20 mpg. yet again, with my new short distance driving, i have been averaging very low mpg. i will not even calculate it, it is so low. but i only have to fill up once a month now because i drive so little.

That is mostly highway very little city driving, just the little that I have to get to a friends place. For my regular weekly driving if I didn't go anywhere other than work and the odd errand, a tank can last me 3 weeks and not complaining about that. But if I go to any neighboring cities, closest one is an hours drive one way, I'll burn around 40 bucks in fuel, costs 60 to fill it, doing 60 miles an hour going there and back with the cruise set so how I drive isn't a factor, which seems steep in costs and pretty much keeps me from visiting any friends and family that live 2 to 4 hours round trip in every which direction. That's my biggest problem with having such low mpg. lol guess I can't believe how low of mileage this car gets. Heh winter is great with it though, snow drifts don't stand a chance. My camaro got better before it got written off.

I've considered pulling off the fan attached to the motor cause I know that can help but don't know how the sensor is set up on the electric fan and not sure if it's reliable. Hmm maybe I'll just end up unloading it in the spring and get something different. Bought this cause it was all I could afford at the time. Was hoping this thing would get about low 20's in mpg on the highway when I bought it, similar to my camaro, sounds like hopes were maybe too high though and sounds like I've done pretty much all I can to get a little extra mileage out of it without spending big money for little gains here and there.

I wouldn't touch the fan, the electric ones are set to run only when the AC runs. 98 up has no fan so the computer handles it differently.
