Found! Tamiya 240SX notchback conversion

I built this back when the Tamiya kits used for this conversion were new, I don't remember what the kit designations were, but I used the notchback body and the front clip from a hatchback 240SX. I'd say this model was done at least 10 years ago.

I have been looking for this model for about a year, today I finally found the box. I had to replace the driver's side mirror, so I took two matching mirrors from the parts box and painted and installed them. Still missing one wiper. It cleaned up pretty well, the paint still shines. It's painted in Testors enamels mixed to approximate the factory colors, and clearcoated in Testors Model Master clear. I mixed two shades of Cobra Colors '05 Mustang paints-Ford Legend Lime and Windveil Blue-to match the mirrors. Whew, that was simple!

Fun model, and a good reminder how much I've improved in the past decade  . Drift fans can drool all they want, this one stays stock :evillol:

Looks pretty good considering how old this one is... Mate of mine reckons that models fall apart after a few years, as the glue dis-intergrates. Have to show him this, as this looks pretty good, and if all you have lost was the door mirrors and a wiper, then shows he has no clue..!!

I've got a model I found a few weeks back that I built nearly 15 years ago.. I have REALLY improved..!! :iceslolan

Looks stellar. I can't wait for my models now to look as good as yours did back in the day (or whatever you want to call it).

Looks great. Nice job color matching the mirrors.

Has the model master clear yellowed at all? I painted a car 2 years ago with Testors clear, and it looks horrible today.

Thanks for the comments, I have a built Fujimi 240 SX hatch but it's not nearly as attractive.

Matt, it's hard to tell if the clear yellowed much; the color sort of lends itself to looking a tad yellow. It's been in a box much of it's life (the last 10 years since I moved here). So I guess that means it's several years older than 10 years! I don't think Model Master/Boyd's clear yellows as badly as Glosscote. I don't use any enamel clears anymore (except for Dullcote on interior parts occasionally), I hope the lacquers are more stable.

i assume u used 2 different model kits to build this one? am i right u chopped the font of the silvia and fitted the SX front on?
do u still have the hatchback rear from the SX and the front from the silvia? u could make a sileighty with those spare body parts as Fujima did a version

i already have both kits the silvis and Sx built standard, but if i can get another 2, then i could build the sileighty and the one like yours :evillol:

Yes, I used two kits to make this one model. I don't think I have the other pieces anymore, but I haven't looked in the obvious places for the leftover parts. It's been a loooooong time since I did the conversion.

very nice execution! I was thinking of doing the same thing w/ my Tamiya kits and making a sileighty and this.

NICE PIGNOSE!!!

I did this same conversion with the aoshima kits. it rendered the late bodied SX coupe without the nostrils though. and I did use the leftovers for a sileitghty.
