i have an 88 b2200. i put in a new head pacesetter headers weber 38 carb. and a bunch of other stuff. the problem is i can't seem to get rid of this ticking noise. it will go away for like 2 days and then come back. it realy is driving me crazy. can anyone help. please!

Its either a Hydraulic Lash Adjustor, or the headers are of a thin gauge causing an exhaust ping/tick type noise. Most likely its a HLA and it will probably need to be replaced or an attempt to clean it will have to be done.

I suggest you use 1/2 of metal lube and 4 bottles oil 20/50. I had the same problem and I fix it with no problem after all.

Run a quart of ATF 1000 miles before oil change. Detergents in ATF might clean up the clogged hydraulic lash adjusters in the head.
If that does not work, time to pull the hla's and clean them or replace when necessary.

May have some help for you. I also have an '88 that was ticking like crazy for years. A few years ago I replaced the vavle seals since that seemed to be the standard fix. It wasn't a year before it started again. Later, had head replaced due to a crack - seals were part of repair. Same thing, ticking started up again. Finally got a good mechanic. Told truck not worth money to do engine work but, he could do an internal engine clean and add treatment from BG Products to see if helped. Stopped the tick! I swear by this stuff now. You can find a few cans on ebay and the entire line at http://www.subaruparts.com/catalog/?section=355 (http://) but primary outlets are repair shops. Based on what I've seen, I'd take to shop and let them do it. May get better results. You can look one up near you at: http://www.bgprod.com (http://) Pick up a can or 2 of Formula MOA. (Subaru parts has discounted price but shipping puts it right back to retail) Put in at each oil change.
