Well I just finished building a new Olds 403 from scratch and instaled it got my car buttoned up the new* engine runs really smoothe and clean. Thanks for all the help I got from the people on this board especially MrPbody.

So I take the car for a test spin after letting the engine run for a few hours @ 1,250rpm. The transmissoin shifts into reverse and drive like it did before but it doesnt shift out of 1st when I'm going; It doesn't even try to shift (well I dont notice it trying at least).

I checked the vacuum line coming from the carb and it's getting vacuum.

Only things that come to mind is that my car was out of action for 3 months and at some point it blead out most if not all of the tranny fluid, which I refilled before driving. It could be that something got clogged.

When I rebuilt the engine I got rid of most of the emmisins equipment which were California specs, so now the only thing on the vacuum PCV like it was before and Trans + Vacuume Advance line. Odds are there is more vacuum in this line then there was before becuse I removed the overly elaborate thermal/vacumme switched EGR/Smog systems. Diagrams available on demand.

And when my engine broke I was still moving and in gear when a connecting rod bolt got jammed between the block and crankshaft and stopped the engine running, I wasn't going too fast but it might have been in 2nd gear when this happened, However I'd think the tranny would still try to shift into 2nd only to a)fail b)make scary noises. Also the car didnt jerk or get pulled from the rear like the tranny was jammed.

this is the Stock 1977 Turbo Hydro 350 3 speed transmission.

Any Idea, Help and/or advice would be greatly Appreciated. Thanks, Gene.

Kick-down cable stuck? Shifter adjustment?

BTW, you're entirely welcome...!

My first thought is the vacuum modulator is stuck (an easy fix) or the kickdown cable is disconnected or stuck.
