Motor surges @ an idle

I have a 1996 328ci and the motor surges when the car is in park and even when in gear stopped at a red light. The motor begins surging up and down and then begins to climb into the uppper RPM's and then falling and it continues this up and down surge until the motor shuts off.
I have had this problem before on my pontiac and I had to clean an intake sensor and it fixed it right up. It looked like the bottom end of a radiator cap. Unfortunately, my BMW knowledge is almost non existant when it comes to the motor and I am unable to find such a sensor. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, the idle control valve would be my first guess:

Hey I appreciate it Dudesky I'll get on it ASAP.
I haven't heard from you since I was looking to buy. I got a 1996 328ci black on black $5k. But it has a salvage title so I have some bugs to work out.

Yep, I remember that conversation. I'm not here as often, spend most of my time on UnitedBimmer. But I check in here at least once a day to see if I can help anyone out. Good luck with the 328, not a bad price, let us know how it's going.
