Problems with cold idle rev

Hello,
I just bought a Ford Taurus 3.0L GL Wagon and have a minor problem. When the engine is cold and I do start it, the rev seems and the engine wants to shut off. Then repently the rev goes up a lot as if somebody is hitting the gas pedal hard, only for the engine nearly shutting of again. If I immediately put into Drive and go, everything is fine. The engine runs smooth and delivers power when required. After two or three minutes, the car is as if nothing happened before.
Only after some time if I have to stop, it starts again but much less pronunciated as before and when I put into neutral, it stops.
Does cleaning the IAC valve help? Might that have anything to do with the transmission pan leaking a little bid (maybe to few oil)?
Thanks for the replies.
