Does your truck have the Trailering PKG?

Almost all the 1500 non heavy duty trucks I see have the trailering package. I was wondering if there are any '99 NBS and newer that did not come with the package?

If you do not have the trailering package what is your truck, 4.8, reg cab, etc...?

Most do come with the package...however, some don't most the ones which don't have either the V-6 or the 4.8 (at least that I've seen) and tend not to be as well equiped. If you order early enough, you can also get any model Silverado without it (in the non-HD class) I believe. One advantage to having it is the tow/haul mode that comes with it not to mention a heavier duty suspension (probably jusy heavier springs)

my truck has the hitch, the tow/haul switch and the trailer wiring plug all there. every truck that i looked at had them when i was buying mine, but they all were the extended cab and had the 5.3.

At least in 2003 and 2004 and 2005 - I know that the "power package" includes the trailer towing options. The "Power package" is the 5.3 and the trailering options.

Trailer tow Package is an option on all Chevy trucks and ALL chevy trucks have the tow/haul mode on the gear selector, whether they have the tow pack or not.

Besides that, who the hell cares????????????

Sounds like maybe a jealousy thing because he doesn't have it?

My '00 came with it and I really liked how my Prodigy brake controller just plugged into the power box behind the emergency brake pedal. I have used the regular towing system exactly once. The first thing I did when I got the truck was to install a gooseneck hitch into the bed and replaced the P rated tires with LT rated tires. I also installed some helper springs to keep the rear end from sagging. I can't tell if these help or not but I don't think they hurt.

My "00 5.3 ext cab did not come with the trailering package. I added a Hidden Hitch and transmission cooler, along with a wiring harness to connect to my pop-up camper. The previous owner did have a 5th wheel package on it, but I guess it was removed right before he sold it.

Hi and Merry Christmas!!!
If your truck had a 5th wheel installed there would be a large hole in the bed between the wheel wells and possibly two smaller ones on either side to hook the breakway chains to. Alot of people confuse a 5th wheel(which looks like the mount on a semi only smaller) and a gooseneck which is a regular ball hitch mounted vertically in the truck bed. The gooseneck part of the trailer is lowered down onto the ball and locks on. When you pull a gooseneck trailer and you have the brakes calibrated right it's easy to forget the trailer is back there. Getting up to speed is a little slower but once running the trailer is really just an extention of the truck. No bucking and clanking like an under the bumper hitch. I would be surprised if your truck had a 5th wheel because most trailers that are 5th wheel are normally pretty large and a C/K 1500 is just too small to pull it.

Hmmm? Good point! Well, let me rephrase that then. When I purchased the truck from the dealer, there was a pretty new bedliner in it, which I really did not think about. I did get under the truck and look around with a flashlight at night when I was inspecting it before purchase, but it wasn't until a month and a half later that I noticed something peculiar. I was installing the trailer hitch and saw four holes drilled through the bed (no large hole for a ball as on my old '77 Silverado 3/4). When I looked at the frame more closely, I could see the marks of the aforementioned "questionable apparatus" that I thought could be a fifth wheel. I believe you are probably right about the gooseneck. Thanks for the correction. :grinyes:

It's really possible that it had a 5th wheel like you said if you saw four large bolt holes and no center hole. The 5th wheel would just bolt to the frame and ride above the floor and the hitch part of the trailer would lock into it. It's just that you don't see many of that type of hitch in our 1/2 ton trucks.

Yeah, that's what I've been a bit afraid of since I discovered that possibility. I did take my truck to my service manager friend at the dealership to try and diagnose the mysterious sound that I have mentioned in another post. I voiced my concerns about how it was previously used and his words were "awww, that doesn't matter, these trucks were made for pulling". I have to take it to him here in the next day or so to see if we can determine the source of the vibration.

I bought my 99 truck new and it came with the 4.8 V-8. It did not come with the towing package but I ordered it. Trailer hitch, electrical hookup and trans cooler.

I have a 2000 LS with the 5.3. it came with the wiring and the switch, but no hitch. I beleive the LT package had the towing package as standard. The LS had the tow package as an option.

My 04 does not have the towing package. Then again, it is the work truck model, so it was pretty stripped down. As someone else has said though, they all have the tow/haul button as far as I know. Have been planning to get a hitch to put on, and according to the window sticker, the wiring is there and ready to hook up, but I haven't looked to see how true it is.

FYI. My 2000 extended cab 5.3l has the towing package, and also is a Z-71. The owners manual is incorrect in towing capacity. It stated about 8000lbs. I called GM Canada and gave them the VIN and they stated that the truck is good to tow 9500lbs. I would think that the towing package is more than just a hitch, wiring, and tranny cooler. The frame must be heavier or be tubed sections rather than c channels.

Doesn't the towing package also include heavy duty shocks/struts?

You betcha' my pick-em-up truck thingy has the towing package.

Let's see.... peeking at the build sheet.... Ah hah!!!!

Z82: trailering equipment, heavy dury, not available with smooth ride suspension, requires 4.8L or 5.3L engine and auto transmission, includes high-capacity air cleaner, frame-mounted hitch platform, transmission cooler, 7-wire trailer harness.

Though the critter is a lowly W/T (work truck model) the factory included the Z82 RPO and a G80 limited-slip rear differential.

01 z71 5.3 LT

Came with the towing package.

I haven't been under very many trucks, being this is my first full size truck. But my frame looks normal underneath. *to answer another person's question* I was told the package is the switch, wiring, hitch, and tranny cooler.

From what I hear even if you don't haul anything you are better off with the tranny cooler. Which makes sense to me.
