I have a 1994 TBird, V8 160K miles. I want to rebuild the motor - I almost have it out of the car but I can't remove the rear differential in order to pull the drive shaft back & remove it from the trans.
My problem is one of the (2) rear bolts just spin - it appears there is a nut on top of the bolt but I can't reach it - almost seems like I would have to drill a hole thru the trunk in order to get a wrench on it ???? which makes me wonder if this was originally welded to the support & just rusted thru??? - 10 years of michigan winters :(
Can anyone shed any light on how the rear end is put together? my motor is all hooked up to the lift waiting removal of the driveshaft - i may just eek the motor forward on the lift & remove the driveshaft that way but it would be sooooo much easier if I could just loosen the rear end & pull the shaft back....
any help out there???
thanks so much in advance....
Jeff.

Are you pulling the trans with the motor? If not, there is no need to pull the driveshaft. If you are, why not pull the radiator and any accessories on the front of the engine and slide the whole unit forward?

yes I'm pulling the motor with trans....and yes all the accessories & radiator are pulled already - my current plan is to pull the motor up & forward, remove the drive shaft - then pull the entire assembly out of the car... I just thought i would "fix up" the rear end since that bolt assembly isn't right.... was considering cutting off the nut from the bottom but I don't want to do that if the stud was welded ...
thanks for the info!

The nuts for the two long bolts are all the way on top of the frame rail in front of the diff, feel around and you'll find them
you'll need a long open end/box wrench, it's metric, something like 21mm
I've pulled them before, it's not too hard, but unless you're under 12, you might need a set of jackstands
