i'm about to start what i consider i major project (since i haven't done this before). I am replacing my glow plugs (would seem easy but it looks like i have to remove the fuel pump first to get at the bus bar and plugs) and ALL of my belts on my 85 diesel golf. Has anyone worked on their timing belt before and run into any difficulties or does the bentley repair manual describe it all? What additional tools might i need? Also if you have any words of caution about any of the other work i'm about to do i'd love to know since i am completely new at this. yikes.
thanks

Don't remove the injection pump, not even for the timing belt. You can get the glow plugs out by removing the metal fuel lines only. Timing belts require some special tools available online & on eBay (not the TDI ones). You really should also spring for the dial indicator for setting the pump timing.
