clutch (?) help

ok, not exactly mitsu related, but I need some help. So I'm driving, my friend was following and he loses teh ability to shift gears.

background: He has a 99 maxima, intake and aftermarket clutch (2 years?). We were sitting in my driveway, and I noticed lots of liquid under his car. He had been chillin for 20 mins, so I figured AC purge (water). We drive 10 miles. Chill for an hour, drive 10 miles back. As we approach our destination, he loses the ability to shift gears. He stops, and can't get into or out of gear. I hop in the car, his clutch is worthless...fully depresssed, I can't get into ANY gear.

Weird thing is, after fooling with it for a bit, he gets it into reverse, however....it doesn't stall when he doesn't hit a thing. NO gas, nothing, and it doesn't stall!?! Then it again was a bitch to get outta gear. Now we can't get it into gear at all. There is complete resistance when you try and shift. I tried again, and couldn't get it into ANY gear....and when I tried 5th...it grinded. I'm thinking he is seriously leaking (empty) clutch fluid....but I was hoping for some more knowledgable people to comment. Thanks in advance, Geoff

ps. It's 4am, quite dark, so I really can't see anything. But tomorrow I need to get this car moving!

Yeah, he was outta clutch fluid. I added fluid, found the leak, bled the clutch, and it's working now. Thanks.

outta clutch fluid in which cylinder? master or slave? and what was the leak? did the solution involve duck tape? :)

Haha, master cylinder was completely dry. The leak was one of the tubes/hoses. The connection was loose and fluid had apparently been leaking from it. The solution didn't involve duck tape...but bleeding the clutch did :)
