Just going to try my first swap on my own on my 88 HF. I just want to install another factory style engine to get me around town for a few more years. I have no clue where to start...any suggestions?

88HF umm its not possible you need to umm do somthing with radon and all just give it to me ...
Joking aside most all of the D motors just drop in you being wired for MPFI will have a nice headstart and dont need to wire unless you get vtec or want to change your OBD gen.
Now onto your budget how much do you have? can you be a little more specif with goals how much power do you want are you willing to give up milage? Does wiring scare you senceless?
100% bolt up motors would be d16a6 sohc ZC and dohc ZC d15b7 d16y7 if you want to wire up vtec you can look into motors such as the d16z6 d16y8 the JDM d15 if gas milage is your quest a d15z1 would work well.
Also these cars are well loved by their cult of owners and we have many other options out depending how much money and how crazy you are.

I only want to spend a few hundred on just the motor. Wiring does not scare me. I don't care about the HP, I just want something that will bolt right in without changing to many things. I hope this helps.

well you can even keep your stock tranny *insane long gears on it* if you want but honestly i'd just look for a d16a6 and matching tranny nice motor good milage *nothing like what your getting now* but you'll be doubling your horse power and keeping an easy 30 mpg off 87 octane gas.
check the classifieds here and on Honda-tech.com *you'll need to wait till your allowed in but worth it* I myself gave a d16a6 away and sold a D15b1 for 60.
Hope i've helped anything esle just ask.

I'll keep my eyes peeled, but is there any way to just keep the stock tranny? Like I said, the easier the better.

What I meant to post was, what motors will work with the stock tranny? I thought a d16b2 and the d15b1? If there is another let me know. please.

:iagree:
All d series parts will work with d series engines, same for b with b and now the k series. As long as you don't try to mix and match the series you should be fine. you'll only run into problems (such as wiring) if you upgrade to an obd I or II or do vtec.
