AHHH!!! coolant leaking!!

As far as I can tell the coolant only leaks when the cars heats up(thermostat opens). There are two metal lines that as far as I can tell carry coolant. But the lines go to the spot where the oil filter goes. Anyways one of those metal lines is touching the coupler that holds my header to the y-pipe. Its hard to see but I think it has something to do with that. Could the heat from the header cause a hole in those cooling lines? What do you all think? I have to drive my moms intrepid while my maro is down.....HELP!!

metal lines? oil filters?

no, there are two main hoses that they could be leaking from... big rubber hoeses, one on top and one on the bottom, if thats it then you = lucky. if not you could be looking at intake manifold or possibly... or on a really off shot the heater core.... does AC work?

Have you.. replaced your radiator cap lately? Cause you do know they expand, right? Causing leakage like so.. or there's a pinhole in your radiator one the sides, if it doesnt stop leaking when you raplace the cap which isnt much then there's a pinhole in your radiator that will need to be patched up somehow.

Those lines are probably transsmition oil lines and should not be leacking any coolant. You may look at yourr intake gasckets. If they are done the coolant might come out of the engine in the rear and down to the filter (or even into the oil too)
Also it may be your heater core.
Give more info on where it leacks.

^Yeah, if you want to see where it leaks, turn the car on let it heat up and when it starts getting hot to where the coolant leaks you'll see the leak! Be sure to put some coolant of some kind in before though, dont be dumb.

ummm u talking about the transmission cooling lines? if so i dont think they would be melting, i agree with them find oooooooout where the leak is then ask us how we think you should fix it if u cant figure it out.

well if it was the intake gasket then I would see coolant in my oil if I checked the oil. And as for where it leaks. if you look at the bottom of the drivers side header where it couples with the exhaust pipe. There are two metal lines right at that spot. Ill try to take some pics. Thats all I can see as far as where it could possibly be coming from. When I look under the car its running down the exhaust pipe on the driver side. But like I said Ill try to get some pics.

if you have a bad intake gasket it sometimes may not leak inside the engine mostly due to thickness of the gasket.
Those lines are either the transmission lines or fuel lines.I believe theres no coolant going anywhere near this spot.

ok here is a pic of where one of the lines come from the radiator. Its the second hose down.

The other one comes from this thing.

Then they go down like so.

Under the balancer...

To the spot where the oil filter goes.

And bam there where I think the leak is.

Im just not sure about what to do. I supposed that if I cut at the flange and get new lines(supposing that I can find them) It will be all good.

i know what it is .Its the optional engine oil cooler.I have not seen one for a while. Its actually nice that you have it. I recomend taking it off and see where the part has deteriorated.

How bad is the leake?

One of the lines might have a crack in it.A couple of peices of hose could fix it.

The leak isnt gushing but it is a fast pace drip. Something that wont go well with traffic. I was talking with my dad and thats what we came up with. A piece of hose. Maybe some water heater hose. Its gotta go past the headers so its gonna be cookin down there. I can put some kind of heat wrap on it...

Oil cooler you say.....sweeeeeet

How hard is it to find a replacement line? Would a dealer carry something like that? In case the fix dosent fix.

Dealers do but expencive. The hose is the best solution or maybe junk yard parts.

By the way how much are those SLP runners for the TPI? They are pretty sweet.

If the cooler is rare at all it will be a butt to locate in junkyards.
And the runners cost around $335 on slponline.com
Im not sure if the previous owner had this thing tuned or not. I have a ton of torque but seem to lose my mid to top end. I know that these tpi motors are prone to do this but I still think a good dyno tune would help out a lot.

Well I stopped to leak. Had to cut out a piece of metal tube just a little over a foot long and replace it with a high temp silicone tubing. I just Hope it will be resistant enough to take all that heat for a while. It hasnt leaked yet so its all good so far!

I hate that, whenever you replace something that you knew was a problem you constantly keep checking on it.
