Front Rotor

I have found the BEST answers here than any auto parts store. I'm not sure where they come from but I'm glad you all are here....

Anyway....

I've busted two (2) craftsman 1/2 wrenches, two 1/2 wrench adapters and finally bought a Breaking bar 1/2. I purchased the star type socket to remove the Caliper mounting bracket. It's not working....

What is the trick to take those bolts off? I've used an impact gun and it doesn't work... I can pay but I've done this before with my other cars..no problem. I'm using the standard method "righty tighty, lefty lucy" (I know that's technical..sorry)....


What's the deal?

The torque on these bolts is 150 foot pounds and the bolts are loctited in place. I would use or rent a 1/2 inch breaker bar as long as I could find and try breaking it loose a six point socket may also work best because it grabs a little better than a 12 point. Righty tighty lefty loosey is correct. Most garages use heavy duty impact guns to remove these but the breaker bar should work.

Unfortunately there reallly isn't any way to get those bolts off without some heat, after they have seized themselves in. Regardless of what others tell you, most heavy duty impact wrenches are to big to even access that area. So getter Hot. they come out really easy after that.
Just be careful not to damage them too much because they are expensive to replace...

I did my brakes about a year ago and had the same problem. Standard way did not work...i thought abot heat but was concerned about all the rubber around the caliper...what i did wasii i sprayed a good penetrating lubricant on the bolts a few days before i tried again...i sprayed the bolts again the day of the repair and used a breaker bar and a hammer...once the breaker bar was in position i wacked the end of it w the hammer a few times real hard to try to shock the bolt....it worked....

I find the easiest way to get the nuts off. Use a 18"-24" pipe on 1/2 wrench or a 1/2 breaker bar at a 8 o'clock position toward the front bumper. Just step on the breaker bar with your foot. I am about 160'lb and I have no problem lossening the nuts...
