I think all the guts should be moved over.. KA and SR driveshaft is the same.

All the gears are the same except for 5th... So why are you gonna go thru all that trouble?

sr20det why even post some shit like that?

and going through the trouble perhaps because the sr tranny is acting like shit and its easier to get my hands on a KA tranny then it is a SR tranny

I have heard that the KA and SR Gearing is relatively the same with different Bell housings...I am guessing the SR bellhousing might fit around the KA gearbox but only doing it would you find out...I dont think anyones ever done it.

rebuilding a tranny takes time swapping out a tranny take much less time which means im w/o my car as little as possible

Buy a spare and rebuild it. But I don't see you needing anythign stronger than stock for the power level you plan on achieving. Our trannies are pretty tough stock.

I don't make any low end power because I simply don't use it. If I race, I downshift and go. As long as I'm not dropping out of the powerband/boost, I'm good.

There are too many varables to say when a stock tranny will go. It depends on how you drive it, tires, clutch, suspension setup, ect ect ect. But Rick and the Twins(two highest power KAs) both use a stock KA manual transmission as of now. Not saying its reliable, but thats what they use... Rick ran a 10.9@134mph on it. But he has replaced it quite a few times. He's taking it easy on this one to see how long he can go on it.

that would be easy if i had the tool and know how to do it but i have neither

Im with sr20detpower on this one , Ive finished my mecanics course in may and we never opened up a auto tranny , thats a specialized course mostly given only by car dealer companies *nissan-honda-ford-etc* but a manual one is quite eazy if you have a good exploded diagram for the tanny on hand , and the best way to get one is to go at the nearest school where they give auto mecanics course , they'll print it up for you for free and will probably be interested in what you are doing so take a shot at it its a win/win situation.

best of luck

the 240sx transmission gears are fairly small compared to a heavy duty truck transmission

NO SHIT?

So you can either waste lots of time and money rebuilding your current tranny or you can get a KA tranny and swap the bell housing for your SR one and be done with it.

Id do the KA24E unless your a wanganeer for the shorter 1st and 5th.

I have a friend with a 475/370ish HP/Torque SR20 and the biggest tranny problem hes had so far is a hard third gear after 10 or so runs... and to my knowledge he still has shit fluid in it.

Word-O. IIRC, your goals are 300whp and a stock tranny will hold that no prob.

I didn't know gearing was different in the KA-Es... huh, shows what kind of KA-T guru I am.lol
