Hi this is my first posting. I have 2001 LS V8 with 116k miles. My problem started almost a week ago when coming back from vacation, after the LS had been sitting for a week I started it but it had a little had time starting but ran just fine after words. Once I got back home and tried to start it again, it would not start and when it did turn over the shook violently. Not wanting to cause any damage I had it towed to the dealer. This is the problem they have had it for 5 days and have no idea what is wrong with it, I have read some the other postings on this forum and many suggest the coils. Could this be the cause? Any suggestions would be grateful. I want my car back!

Do you have a K&N or other oiled air filter, by chance? If so, had you recently cleaned and oiled it? Maybe you used too much oil and the oil has contaminated your Mass AirFlow (MAF) sensor. This happened to me once on my SHO. Not to the extent to cause the car to run violently, but enough to cause a drastic decrease in fuel economy (running rich) and performance (somewhat sluggish). Also, did you make sure the air intake hose was installed properly and tightly? Is the MAF sensor plugged in?
I'm still learning on the LS, but it might also be possible that you have a bad Crankshaft Position Sensor or Camshaft Position Sensor. Did you have a check engine light? If so, what was the code?
The LS V8 has a separate coil for each cylinder (COP), right? If so, I would doubt that all of them would go bad at once. I have the Coil On Plug setup on my '98 SHO V8 and I've had one coil pack go out at a time, but one going out is not enough to prevent it from starting. Twice when a coil went bad on my car it did not cause a check engine light or a DTC to be set, but I was able to see the air/fuel ratio go rich just after the misfire events and was able to see in the emissions readiness parameters that one particular cylinder was recording misfires and the other 7 were not.
