92 Rodeo OIL PAN LEAKING....need help!!!

hi i have a 92 rodeo (if you need more info check my signiture), i was under my truck yesterday and noticed there was oil dripping from my skid plate, and forming a very small puddle on the ground. i removed the skid plate to get a better look, and there was oil all over the lower 3 or 4 inches of the oil pan. i was hoping something was just loose, but wasnt so lucky,

turns out that a secton of my oil pan right by the axle is starting to rot out causing the oil dripping, the wierd thing is that when the car is running it wont leak any oil, only when the car is sitting the oil starts run down the oil pan and drip.

either way i figure im going to have to replace the oil pan, unless you guys think i could jb weld the little spot where its coming from????

if you dont think i should do that, ive heard a few people say that you dont have to remove the front axle or differential, and then others and haynes says you do have to do drop the axle??? has anyone succesfully replaced thier oil pan on the older style rodeo ie 91-92's without removing the axle? im pretty competant working on stuff, and slowly gainging confidence tackling these kind of jobs. also any tips or advice??

the other option i think would be lifting the engine out a little, do you think this would be easier than dropping the axle?

The oil only drips when the engine isn't running because when the engine is running, there is alot less oil sitting in the pan. Shut off the engine and the pan fills up.

i guess that makes sense, but i thought the oil pan would be under more pressure with the car running than when its off?

There's very little pressure in the oil pan with the engine running. The pressure is in the oil passages.

back to the leak.... anyone else have any tips, or knows what invlolved in replacing the oil pan??
