Question about Lancers and Evos

I’m 17 years old and about to begin my last year at high school and I'm looking to buy a lancer evolution.I’m fairly new to driving, so buying an Evo, isn’t a practical thing for me to do, I couldn’t handle the power right now. I was however, able to find a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ Rally for under 11k near me. Now I’m wondering if this is a good car to begin with, or if there is something else I should try out, as a good predecessor to an Evo.

have youe test driven the EVO to know if you could handle it or not...you might suprise yourself...easiest thing would be to take your foot off the gas, we're not talking about some 900hp monster...

get the EVO...if you don't you'll regret it if bought an OZ Lancer

the Lancer OZ is a very slow car, it is an economy car meant to look like a fast car. Do not be fooled into thinking it is a performance car.

If you can't afford an Evo and really want a lancer, then get a Lancer Ralliart. A Subaru WRX (non STi) is also a good lower power lower cost substitute for an Evo.

you should be fine if you get a evo for a first car, at least its awd. my buddy bought one in the middle of my summer going into senior year and he learned quickly how to take it easy...

get the evo you won't be driving fast at all. Unless you can afford the price of gas these days.

As mentioned earlier please take a close look at a used Subaru Impreza WRX. You can pick them up pretty cheap (mid-low teens). They have a bit less power than the EVO, but you will get to have the TURBO AWD experience. Also, the WRX is very mod-friendly when you are ready for more power. Put a couple thousand into the WRX and you will be as quick as a stock EVO at less then the cost of one. Plus you will have pretty good handling too. (Maybe 80% of what the EVO has to offer, but still good).

My best advice - test drive alot of cars and do your homework before you even get ready to buy one.
