Car Stereo Interchangeability

I recently purchased a 2000 Suzuki Vitara JLS 2-door 2WD. It has an AM/FM/Cassette deck in it and I was looking at upgrading to a CD player and/or changer. The unit I have does have CD Changer control, but all I have to go on is the shape and pin layout of the plug.
Was there a factory CD changer available? Or does it conform to some standard?
Also, Crutchfield.com can't even tell me what size radio goes into the vehicle. Does anybody know what other models and years have interchangeable stereos with the 2000 Vitara?
Thanks,
Mike

Go to a stereo shop and get the proper adaptor kit and harness, then you can put any aftermarket stereo in there you want, cd, mp3, dvd, whatever. I've got a Kenwood KDC-MP7028 in my 02 Tracker, and I'd wager the KIT would be the same one for your Vitara, though the wiring harness might be the Suzuki harness instead of the GM style harness put in the Tracker, though many Suzuki vehicles use the standard GM style radio harness. These adaptors allow you to put any aftermarket DIN sized deck in your Vitara without cutting, guessing or blowing fuses. Additionally, the deck will look like it's SUPPOSED to be there.

I have a 2000 4dr hrdtop. I took out the factory am/fm/cassette and plugged an alpine directly into the factory harness with out purchasing a harness. Come to find out alpine made the factory unit.
