There is a funny sound coming from the bottom of my engine, like something is turning, almost like a clicking, but also kinda like a dry metal sound. Also can i really mess anything up by adjusting the kick down band, and after i do that is there anything else i need to do, Thanks Nick

You really did not explain much, but I am curious. Can you get under your car and carefully with a long peice of heater hose for safety sake, try and pinpoint the clicking sound. One end against the engine and the other in your ear. I am serious, it is a safe way of pin pointing noises without loosing a part of your body. Is it near the front or back of your oil pan, or right between your engine and transmission??Could be your trany flex plate.
wish you luck. Please reaspond even if you repaired it. Good luck Wayne

Get this i havent done what you said, i'm acually gonna try that tommorow, but today my car was overheading like crazy, the guage flew up, i just replaced the thermostat, i'm wondering if it was the 2 bottles of stop leak i added, mybe they are clogging it up, there is pressure in the system, because i slowly took of the cap and it released all the gas so, i dunno, but also i didnt here my fans, oh and when the guage flew up the car wasnt smokinguntil i took the radiator cap off , but i could smell the rubber burning. And another thing when i turn on the heater the guage goes up even more, with the heater on full. Hey do you guys wan some pictures of my engine and under my car, would that help at all.

Your car overheating could be a few things:
1. Fan Relay is bad
2. Improper mixture of coolant and water
3. Not enought coolant in the system
4. Clogged radiator
4. Bad radiator
5. Thermostat (you replaced this already)
I would start by checking the fan relay and then maybe doing a radiator flush.

Hey, I think, your smelling a hot engine. Check all the above, and do not rule out your water pump. You said all the gases came up or you bled the system. Let the car cool down, about ten minutes and carefully remove the rad cap. Start the car, The water should be flowing pretty fast, or you still have air in your system or your water pump fins ar damaged. Stop leak is good, but if your rad, heatercore etc, were plugged before, I imagine you plugeed it really good now.
Also, for a five spot you could get some rad cleaner and flush it out a few times, and refill with antifreese. Read the direction, and drain and flush with clear water a few times alowing your engine to heat up through each flush.
Good luck Wayne

As for stop leak...........There is no such thing as a mechanic in a bottle. And I venture to say that 2 bottles of that stuff in such a small system in a little too much.Being as how you did put 2 bottles in tells me that you had a pretty bad leak,do you know where it was coming from.

Oh!, beg to disagree. STP in your older engine can extend you a good year extra with a car if you are broke.
I mean this with the all respect.

These aren't the old days, where you run the oil through a pair of pantyhose to filter out the dirt, change your filter, and out the oil back in to save some money

Alright i checked the fan relay it looks ok, but guess what my fans arent turning on, i'm an idiot and didnt notice, on guy said replace the coolant tempature sensore because it will kick on the fan when it gets to hot, but the guage works fine, would it be that. Oh and i flushed out the whole engine and radiator and the resivore, car still over heating though. Gota figure out why the fans arent turning on, an ideas. oh and by the way thanks for the tip on opening the radiator cap, it starting flowing out alot so i do have pressure going through the system. Thanks a lot people, but do you guys think its the tempature sensor....one last thing, i changed the thermostat with a cheap one, think that will make a difference.

Change the oil????? sorry, this guy lost me.
I'll say it one more time. If the rad coolant just rises and spills out of your cap, you have air in there. It should not just spill out or rise up and down. It should be flowing finside your rad like a pump circulatig water. One last cheap way to bleed a system. Put your car up on ramps so your rad is higher than the engine. Air will come out at it's highest point Let it run. You will probably loose some fluid, but rev it up to around 1500rpm and get the air out. Fluid should be flying inside your rad. Also check for a bad electrical contact to your fan. You also said fans, does that mean a/c and rad??
And to say get your hands dirty. Well after working on cars all my life, I have to say of cource, but there better be a logical cause.
The best wayne.

thanks man the car is overheating only cause the fans arent turning on, i checked the fuse and connections, there fine. yeah both fans wont come on neither the radiator nor ac fan, even when i turn on the ac it doesnt come on. I got all the air out the the flow of coolant is good, just the fans is what i'n having trouble with.

I checked the relay in the fuse box by using and oms meter, but get this, chrysler decided to put a fan rely on the fend wall, i had to take my battery, batery box and fuse box out to get to it, but that was what was fried, it cost me 60 bucks at autozone, that was the cheapest, the dealer wanted 90, i have a nother question, is there a way to hook the fans up to a switch, like a buy a button and hook it up to just the radiator fan or both fans. The car is not over heating now, thanks a lot for your help people, but is there a way to hook em up.

You can run a simple toggle switch to a keyed hot.If you run it to a keyed hot then it will turn off when you turn off the car.Why would you want to do that though?

i know this is an old thread, but i must say one thing....what the h**l did you mean by running oil through a pair of pantyhose....what the h**l would that do? sorry, may be 28, but not old enough to know that...

what the h**l did you mean by running oil through a pair of pantyhose....what the h**l would that do? sorry, may be 28, but not old enough to know that...My dad said that back in the 60's he would know of people who would drain their oil and then filter it through a pair of pantyhose to remove some of the dirt and then pour the "filtered" oil back in the car. It was all about saving money back then! Crazy, but he said he had friends do it.

I am having the same problem. I bought a fan relay from Pep Boys, it was $18. and looks like a fuse box relay, just a small black box. Where does this one go?
I also tore out the battery and battery box but all I saw was a small, flat box on the fender, is this the other relay? What is the part number and where did you get it, the parts stores around here know nothing about it.
Thanks

The only relay I know of is in the PDC, Power Distribution Center, which is located right behind the battery. Apparently there is another one close to the fender. I haven't seen that one before, must be on earlier models.

Mine is a 1998 but there is no relay in the PDC! So there is something odd with my car and not just me.
