Hub size vs. wheels on '94 325ic

I have a 1994 325ic convertible and I've been told that the hub size on the installed wheels that are on it are incorrect which is the cause of the wheel vibration. I purchased this car last year and had no idea that it didn't have the original wheels on it. The wheels are factory BMW wheels but I've been told they are from a 528 (E39) series (which are a different hub size) and therefore can't be mounted without adapter/hub-centric rings. I don't know if this info is accurate but if it is, it definately explains the vibration I feel even after the tires are balanced  .

I called the stealer and they don't sell hub-centric rings. Then I went to a tire/wheel dealer and they said after measuring it, the wheels & hub are so close it shouldn't matter & the wheels are lug-centric  anyway.

Can anyone help me? Are the wheels hub or lug centric? If they are hub-centric what is the hub size of an e36 vs. e39 and where can I get the the adapter rings?

I would love to post pictures of the wheel but the board won't let me.
