My Gas pedal soft or sticky or something

Hey all;
So today I was with one of my exs and I noticed that the gas pedal was feeling like it was sticking to my shoe. When I lift my foot off the pedal, the pedal seems to pull up with my foot. I look at the pedal and my shoe, and there was nothing there. No gum or stickness anywhere. I looked closer at the pedal, and I see lots of play in it. When the pedal is just normal, I can lift it up towards the dash pretty high. I can also push down on it a little, and not feel the cable pull. It also seemed to me that I wasn't getting full power when flooring, as if the TB wasnt opening all the way. Anyone ever have this? Any ideas? I didn't touch anything. Just installed some ground wires. Didnt even touch the TB or throttle cable.

That's pretty odd...it just started to happen? In my beater car I notice that there is some play in the pedal, but you just have to push the pedal down a little more. I never bothered to figure out why, but the car is a 94 oldsmobile cutlass supreme, so it's getting on in years. I just deal with it and put the pedal down a little more. I don't have a clue why it would start doing it to your car though....

On another note, did you get the ground wires all the way done?

Yeah, it just started to happen the other night. One of my friends said to check the throttle cable, and tighten it if possible. I dont know how to do that.

I got most of the ground wires on except for the alternator, and it said one for the headlights. Lookingat the link in the other post, Im going to end up making some more thick wire like that and adding ground wire all over the place. Should be good. Almost though

You can adjust the throttle cable. That would be my first uess when you do tighten it check to make sure no bolts are missing because if it started all of the sudden you may have a problem where something came off giving you more play. I'm not sure of the setup with the 420a but i know on te 4g63 it's really easy to adjust.

I have to find my book. This won't cause any problems will it? Like, its ok to drive, right? Im going out in a few, and dont want to get screwed over by having no car

I would look at it as soon as possible because something with such sudden onset usually means something broke and you don't want it to get worse.

True. Ill go out, but wont drive much. I then have to work 2 jobs tomorrow, so I wont get around to it until sunday morning. I did open the hood right now and didnt see anything missing around the TB or the cable. It looked ok.

One of my mechanic friends said that maybe it's the master cylinder. Isnt that just for clutches? IDK what the master or slave clyinder do.

He must have assumed you were talking about a clutch pedal, otherwise that would make no sense at all.

Naw, he knew it was the gas pedal I was talking about. I didnt think it had anything to do with that.

I started my new job today! Moved from Circuit City to Best Buy! They pay good money when moving someone in like that. All pretrained and all. That means more money for more goodies!! Whoo Hoo!!

I fixed it.

When I was installing the ground wires, I replaced the ground wire going from the intake manifold to the firewall, and then conencted that to the battery ground. What happened was that the little metal piece that is there is actually the tensioner for the throttle cable. When I took off the bolts to attach the new wires, I didn't tighten it up so that the cable was pulled tight. I could move the cable about an inch, right at the TB, without actually opening it up.

So, I took off the bolts on the manifold where the tensioner is, and tightened it up so that there was VERY little play in the cable->TB.

The pic is an old pic, so be nice. The two bolts on the metal piece need to be loosened in order to move the plate underneath. I would suggest cleaning that plate very well too. There is actually a much better throttle response. IDK if it had anything to do with the ground wires or what, but I floor it and the thing takes off. It has never felt that strong before. I also grove a 96 GS the other day, and it wasnt even close to the response I got as of today. Granted, it was stock, but the response was great. I will be doing a writeup on the grounding once Im done. Going to make some of my own wires to redo EVERYTHING.
