well i just got a 92 grand am se v6 with 161k miles on it for free. it had some issues, but i think i got most of them figured out. the first question i have, is what are some of the common problems with these cars, and what problems should i be expecting out of it in the future. the last owner wasnt the obsessive compulsive maintenince freak i am (i work at a full service station and have the shop to myself after hours...he he...nothing is inventoryed...he he..) and frankly i dont think he ever in the 1 year he owned it did any work what so ever to it. everything right now checks out fine right now, but im looking for a heads up on what to expect.
next question, the tranny slips pulling away from stops, and when under heavy loads (steep hills, hard acceleration). what can i do other than replace the tranny or torque converter. ive already done the filter and flushed it. there was a little metal, but nothing to panic about. any ideas?? when the trannys cold, it shifts fine.
and finally, where can i find performance upgrades for my car??? any websites??? can any parts be swapped off of any other gm cars for performance gains???

Watch out for intake manifold leaks as that is a common problem on these engines. Other than that you shouldn't have much of a problem. The one issue is that since you flushed the tranny you may encounter problems. Changing the fluid and filter would probably have corrected your problem. I recommend seafoam or other high quality trans treatment. If that doesn't work prepare for tranny replacement. You can try PFYC.com for some upgrades, of course it depends on the size engine you have. There are other web sites I just don't know what they are.
